Credibility of my search @ 32000Ft ( on a flight from austin to PDX )

So, this is yet another incident which i had never though would ever happen. But this has not happened over a night ( or a day!) but is the result of one of the few books i have ever read with great interest, it's the result of one of the most beautiful, useful and trusted invention in the human history and it's the result of work of some of very competitive ( and close to success and may be creditable) invention of the similar type.

Before i get to it, i should point out few things just for the record. First i am an engineering student , i do some kind of research on one of the most interesting (i am not sure why I'd put this adjective here!) area of electrical engineering and i plan to earn my living with that.

Secondly, Internet is a vast ocean with lots of information and undoubtedly there are many non-RG* type of guys in the this world who prefer to share/disseminate their knowledge making the mankind even wiser then he is today, every day.

with whose two pieces of record points i don't really need to break any mystery for you smart chaps out there that, i do search for my research in this vast pool of knowledge, information, data and undoubtedly i can't do it without a search engine. There you go... you thought the right word...Google , ohh wait.... I'd write it again.... 'you thought the right VERB.... Google'.

Yes i Google , i google very other second , for every other thing i need to understand and know.I have always relied on google and wondered how does it give me what i am looking for, how does it always give some answers (and pretty correct ones) to my every question and at some point it struck me, how credible these answers are and are those the best answers i could get or there are better answers out there?

(to be frank this was not the only curiosity i had about google but there was one more thing that made google interesting to me and that was its fierce competition with software giant Microsoft. When google was just a baby how it competed so successfully with this big daddy? It looked like a prodigy to me!!). So out of these curiosity ( also with curiosities of knowing how google works and also how did it make money) i decided to read THE GOOGLE STORY (by, David A Vise) to know what exactly is in there ,how it came to picture, how it makes money while still giving free search engine, how these search results are organized, are they in alphabetical order (didn't seem like that to me) or are they based on how much those links pay to google and lot more questions of similar type. I am not gonna write a review of the book here but i could tell at the least that the book answered all of the questions above and after reading the book i believed that i can rely on google's search result, i believed that , that's the best search i could ever get from this vast pool of knowledge and the search results gets better and better as company grows.I felt that it was the most beautiful , ( jo insan ke use karne layak ho) , most generous , most needed invention of the world. Not that the Microsoft's - windows was not one of those kinds but the difference being that google didn't try to monopolize “Google”.

Undoubtedly big competitors like MS and Yahoo could not sit quietly and actually ,they never sat quietly till date. In their consistent effort to somehow deal with google's growing popularity, usage among people and dominance on Internet search market MS has finally attempted to break the hard nut and has recently launched its own search engine named Bing (I totally abhor this name, sounds like some stupid thing to me). I never wanted to try using bing for my search as I believed that no one in the world could possibly think of that smart way of searching and prioritized listing of the search result ( I came to know about this from the book) .

I would surely appreciate MS effort to launch Bing but more than that I would appreciate its effort in popularizing bing, its continuous effort to take it to the remotest possible user of google.I am pretty sure you must have noticed bing's add some where or the other or in some website or the other and some of these places/websites would be the most bizarre ( or may be obscene) places/websites where you could never expect an add from such a reputed firm!! I lol at MS for doing that as that made me feel how low, cheap and desperate MS can go. (one of such places I have seen are toilets and one of such websites I stumble upon are illegal movie-streaming websites.)

I know that I can't overlook MS power as it's the biggest IT company with possibly the most skilled IT engineers employed in it's domain. At some corner of my mind I totally understood that but I didn't really want to believe it in my real life . ( looks like there is a tendency in me as you can see similar trait from my last blog on America and India).May be , I am afraid of using bing, I am afraid that what if the results of my search on Bing don't match to my same search on Google. What if they spit different websites? Or even if they spit similar websites then what if they are in not in the same order? ( there is a genuine rational behind the way google's search outcomes are ordered/prioritized), what if Bing gives better search results for some cases and I get good results in google for some other search or vice versa. What if my blind faith on google shakes ( and thus my blind trust on my search results ).

If the results of my search on two search engines are different then I will be left with the most crucial question of which one to trust? Life would become heavily complicated and searching process would slow down as then, each time , I would be needing to do my search on both Bing and Google (on two tabs) and then compare their outcomes , may be by opening few top listed website ,to get the best answer to my query. May be then, I might have to look at even other existing search engines like AOL and Yahoo to appease my query with the best possible answer. It sounds scary to me. In fact, I am scared now as I did compare the search result for my name 'divya kesharwnai' ( w/o quotes) and I found that Bing's outcome were better than that of Google's. I am kinds stuck now. I feel cheated I guess. All these years, my search was not the most optimal I guess. But again,is google spitting inferior outcome?? I didn't feel that ever since i started using Internet!!

I can't really answer this question now as this small test could be dubious. I think I do feel that the result of my search are not credible as of now but it will take time for me to figure out which one's worth. I request all you smart chaps out there to post your experience on using Bing and Google in terms of how credible your search results were. That would surely make my life easier but would also help others reading this post.

May be I am not just a googler anymore but I want to get credible results of my searches even if I have to be a binger for that!!!

necessity is the mother of invention, but was bing necessary?

today , on sept.19, 2009: Credibility of my search results are not guaranteed!! I guess neither are your's!!
